Learn-To-Lift On-Ramp

Learn the lifts from top to bottom with a evidence-informed approach.

If it’s been a while, or you are coming to us with zero experience out learn-to-lift program is your first step. We start off beginners with (3) one-hour sessions. We take an individualized approach to teaching the Snatch and Clean & Jerk.

For: Beginners or athletes new to Olympic lifting.
What it is: A progressive, coach-led onboarding program designed to build technical foundations and confidence.

  • Day 1: Snatch

    • Breathing, bracing, and stability

    • Learning the snatch-specific positions: receiving, power, above knee, below knee, and starting

    • Breaking down the phases: first pull, second pull, third pull, and recovery

    • Drills to develop rhythm, timing, and safe bailing techniques

    • Learning the Clean-Specific positions: receiving, power, above knee, below knee, and starting

    • Breaking down the phases: first pull, second pull, third pull, and recovery

    • Drills to develop rhythm, timing, and safe bailing techniques

    • Learning and refining positions: jerk dip, jerk drive, jerk receiving, and recovery

    • Drills for timing, rhythm, and safely managing missed lifts

Team Programs

Train with the team on a program that aligns with your goals, needs, and development in the sport.

The Team Program is the core of Method Barbell’s in-person training community—designed for athletes who are ready to take the next step in their Olympic weightlifting journey. Whether you’re transitioning from Learn-to-Lift, coming in with prior lifting experience, or preparing for your next competition, this program offers a structured, coach-led environment where you can progress with intention.

For: Lifters with some experience in snatch and clean & jerk.
What it is: Small group coaching that blends individualized progress with a structured, team-based program. Athletes follow the Method Barbell training system aligned to their current development tier, with room to advance toward higher levels of competition.

  • Our Developmental Pathway:

    • 🟦 Learn-to-Lift
      Structured onboarding program focused on technical foundations, lifting literacy, and baseline strength. Ideal for beginners or those transitioning from other strength sports.

    • 🟩 Foundational
      Athletes refining their consistency, timing, and mobility. An emphasis on physical literacy, quality movement and habit formation. Often preparing for first or second local meet.

    • 🟨 Developmental
      Intermediate athletes with solid technical proficiency and a commitment to training. Focused on increasing performance, competition readiness, and mastering advanced lift variations.

    • 🟥 Performance
      Experienced lifters training with a focus on qualification standards, peaking strategies, and long-term athletic progression. Often competing at the provincial or national level.

    • 🟫 Masters
      Athletes aged 30+ following customized programming that accounts for training history, recovery needs, and overall health—while still supporting high performance and competition success.

  • All Team athletes have access to our club hours for live coaching and guided training.

    • Coaches provide technical feedback, cueing, and corrections during sessions

    • Training is delivered via TrainHeroic and designed to progress over 3–6 week mesocycles

    • Strength, accessory, and mobility work is built into each week to support performance

    Saturday: 12:00–2:30 PM

  • For athletes planning to compete, our coaching extends beyond the training hall.

    • Coaches will attend key local and provincial competitions

    • Strategy is personalized to your experience, weight class, and goals

    • Mental prep and confidence-building strategies are woven into your final weeks

    • New athletes are guided through competition rules, protocols, and registration as needed

Method Barbell’s Individualized Coaching is for athletes who need a tailored approach—whether you're managing a variable schedule, preparing for a specific competition, addressing technical gaps, or chasing performance at the highest levels. Programming, planning, and coach support are built to fit your needs, training history, and goals—not just the team template.

Individualized athletes still train in-person with the Method Barbell community, but with a custom plan that adapts to life, workload, and lifting capacity.

  • At the core of this offering is a training program designed just for you—built from scratch based on your movement profile, current tier, and personal goals.

    What’s Included:

    • Custom periodized program delivered through TrainHeroic

    • Tailored load management, progression strategies, and accessory work

    • Ongoing communication with your coach via chat, email, or call

    • Integrated technical cues and mobility drills targeting your weak points

    • Clear alignment with your current tier (Developmental, Performance, or Masters)

  • If your schedule is unpredictable, or you can only attend a limited number of in-person sessions each month, our hybrid remote coaching model gives you the structure and support you need—on your terms.

    What’s Included:

    • Your individualized training plan delivered through TrainHeroic

    • Access to video feedback and communication via CoachNow

    • Upload lifts anytime, get coach feedback within your schedule

  • Each training block includes a formal review process to make sure you're progressing in the right direction—and making technical gains, not just adding load.

    What’s Included:

    • Post-block video and performance analysis

    • Adjustments to technical priorities, exercise selection, and taper windows

    • Updated athlete notes and re-profiling as needed

    • Review includes movement trends, strength data, and readiness feedback

 FAQs

  • Yes. All in-person athletes, including Learn-to-Lift participants, must have an active membership at Evolve Strength North.

  • Yes, but we recommend you schedule an intake session to assess your current technique and see if a different program is more suitable.

  • Team training sessions run Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5:00–7:30 PM, and Saturdays from 12:00–2:30 PM.

  • Most brand new athletes progress into the Team Program after completing Learn-to-Lift or through coach evaluation. Applications are reviewed individually.

  • Yes. We offer options for private or small-group technical sessions for targeted skill development.

  • No, it’s not required. Some athletes want to have better form, focus on fitness, and have some fun. With that said we do reccomend competiting as there are a large number of benefits (mentally, physically and emotionally) that come only through competing.

  • Yes! You can do the Learn-to-Lift sessions without committing to the full team pathway. These sessions are designed to teach and refine Olympic lifting technique in a supportive, coach-led environment—perfect for those who want to improve their snatch and clean & jerk without jumping fully into competitive weightlifting.
